The ever going saga of how much weight links carry

One of the main items anyone can do to improve the rankings in the search engines is to build up incoming links. There has always been a discussion on how different links are counted. One of the main items that most people talk about is getting links on .edu or .gov sites as the holy grail of link building.
This is discussed on marketing forums all over the net and most people believe these links carry some sort of additional authority. Links from social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook are normally looked at as lower quality links than ones from sites such as government sites or education universities.
I guess this comes from the notion that its a lot easier to create a new profile on a social site and fill it up with links to your site than it is to obtian a link from your local college. But do these really make a difference.
Well according to Matt Cutts from Google, it does not matter. They are looking for a variety of links and while they may give more rank for a page coming from a page with a higher page rank, the actual url really plays no part. A follow link is a follow link. The higher the page rank of the linking page the more valuable it is. Seems like a good reason to build links to your profile pages on sites that are not no follow on your social networking sites.

Blog Income – Trend Blogging

One way that many people are earning a decent blog income is by trend blogging. Trend Blogging is a relativity new trend where you attempt to jump on hot trending topics from Google or other locations on the web. I’ve done quite a good bit of it and it works. The only downside is that you are stuck pretty much with only being able to monetize Trend blogs with Adsense. Sometimes this makes it hard to earn a lot of cash with your trend blog and lets face it trend blogging is hard work.
In case you have not heard about this blogging technique, I’ll give quick overview. Basically you register a domain name which covers a wide niche, such as fashion or entertainment, then you watch the news happenings in the niche and you blog about those topics. With some decent SEO skills lots of times it is very easy to get on the top of the SE’s for these terms. This can bring you a lot of traffic in a short amount of time. Post about 10 stories a day and you can easily be pulling in a couple of thousand unique visitors each and every day. The downside is this traffic is normally short lived when a new story hits the top of the news channels so you maintain your traffic you have to post consistently every day. This burns a lot of people out especially with niches such as Entertainment where the click amount you can earn from adsense are very low.
I’ve been trend blogging for about 1 1/2 years now and I was probably one of the first people to do it and even with adsense you can make a good amount of cash. Long term readers may remember my 2000 dollar day with adsense. So you can make some cash with Adsense on trend blogs, but I’ve found a way to make even more.
