Adsense Ads and Female Clickers
I saw a message posted on a forum the other day stating that females tend to click Adsense ads more than males. I’m not totally positive if this is accurate, but I have seen some evidence which lend validity to the claim.
My day job entails me spending a lot of time interacting with other employees and it just so happens that the place I work has a 4 to 1 ratio of female employees to male. As someone who is naturally curious about people Adsense clicking habits, I’ve been watching people as they navigate different websites and search engine results while we were in their offices. My observations have produced a consistent theme in this area. The females do tend to click the ads more often than males. I also notice there seems to be a correlation between the social status of the individual and whether they click ads or not. Higher positions( once who earn more money and are usually less web savvy) tend to click ads more than lower position workers. This is true across both genders.
The females I observed will almost always click the first position ad in the search engines and they will click ads after an article more times than not. The more technically astute the person is the less likely they will click the ads.
This is by no means a scientific experiment, but it is some interesting observations. If you are mainly targeting a female population then you may want to consider my observations when designing you ad layout and your bids in Adwords.

Very interesting. It’s making me think a little. One of my websites targets mostly females and I normally put adsense right after the end of the article and I do seem to have better CTR with that particular position in that website.

That is probably one of the best uses of this technique. I have a site or two that targets females and I’m definitely moving my ads around to take advantage of this apparent trend. One thing to be aware of is the post on the Adsense blog about ad placement and how the best paying advertisors get the first spot on the page. http://brucehopkins.net/internet-marketing/adsense-and-ctr.php
I think this is true. Women are naturally curious and browse by nature whereas men tend to go directly where they want and ignore the periphery. A perfect example is shopping – women could shop all day and never get bored, whereas men know exactly what they want to buy, where to buy it and how to achieve this in the quickest possible time.
