The never ending quest for more blog visitors

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well thanks to Steve and his comment on my blogrush post ( I would give Steve a link, but he failed to leave a website link in the comment), I have another method to try and increase the number of page views on this blog. They are not bad now, but pride is getting to me and I want more readers, more subscribers, and more comments. So I’m going to investigate every method I can find to help with these goals. In steps Entrecard.com. This is a basic link sharing type program where you earn credits that you can then use to advertise on other blogs. There are some big name blogs in the network, such as Shoemoney. Since you can control which blogs show your ads as well as which blogs you allow to advertise on your site, you have a lot more control than you do with a network such as Blogrush.

I signed up a little while ago and already have one advertiser requesting to advertise on my blog. I have not advertised this blog anywhere since I don’t hardly have any credits, but I will try it out on some other blogs once I get some credits built up. You can earn credits a couple of ways, one you allow others to advertise and two when you drop your card on someone else’s advertisement. I have not figured out how to do this yet. You have to see the Entrecard on a blog and then you earn one credit for each time you do this, but I have not seen a blog in the network with the drop here verbiage on the widget. I’ll keep looking to see if I can earn some additional credits. Maybe if I get enough credits I can buy a spot on Shoemoney’s blog. right now he has a 9 day waiting list and each one costs 42 credits. I need to update my above stats in the time it has taken me to write these couple of paragraphs I already have two other advertisers waiting for space on my blog. I’m going to give this one a little of my time and see how it works out.

Hi there,

I came to your site through Entrecard :) I think it’s kind of neat. It preys on blogger vanity to see who is checking you out. It’s also fun to discover new sites to drop your card. I’m surprised you haven’t seen other people’s widget to drop off yours.

Anyways, we’ll see this becomes a hit. So far, it has given me curious lookers than Blogrush ever has. Maybe the novelty of dropping cards will wear off but it’s working now.

I just have to get them to stay :)

Well, I figured out how to drop the cards on other blogs. I was using IE7 and for some reason it does not seem to work correctly with this widget. I decided to try FireFox and it is now working as expected.

@mariam, I think its pretty cool. Dropping cards is a great way for initial people to earn credits which is why I spent a little time dropping quite a few tonight. Of course every time you drop one you are raising the price for advertising on that particular site. I’m going to try it a while and see how much traffic I can garner from the process.

Hrm. Noted your problems with IE7, I think we got a similar report from a couple of people via the feedback widget. The problem seems to be that we use an “off-domain” cookie to determine who you are and it isn’t being detected properly. I’m going to go have a play with IE7 and see if I can figure out a workaround for us.

hey, also found your site through entrecard.

I just want to say that entrecard rocks.

[…] I’ve been thinking a lot about how to increase the number of readers to my blog, I’ve looking at both these services to see how I may could use them to help me out. Well […]

I signed up for Entrecard and spent the whole afternoon figuring out how to drop a card. I don’t see the “drop yours” button at the bottom of the widget as explained in the Help column.Instead I saw the “Get one” button. I was wondering if I have so much difficulty just to drop a card, the multititude of bloggers out there may have the same problem and such things happen, Entrecard may not loose its members in no time. I was at the edge of giving up until I saw the comment on this post that the widget does not work with IE. I will give it a try with Firefox and see whether it works. But overall, I think this is an innovative idea of generating traffic but if it does not work with IE, it may not go far.

I also came across your website via EntreCard, so that just goes to show how powerful it is already, and it has surprised me and this is only the second day I’ve had it up (only the 3rd day my blog has been up).

As you can tell from the age of my blog, I am fairly new to blogging but I have learned a lot in the first three days my blog has been in operation.

Yesterday, the second day of operation, according to my stats I had 170 unique page views. Today (3rd day my blog has been up), looking at my stats right now it says I have had 690 unique visits and 1,063 page loads–which tells me most of my visitors are sticking around to see what else I have on my blog.

Like I said I’m new to blogging so maybe those figures are average, but it’s the most traffic I’ve ever had and it’s all been due to NETWORKING with other bloggers via sites such as BlogCatalog, discussion forums/communities, EntreCard, various social bookmarking communities.

I don’t think anyone is ever “content” with the amount of visitors they will get to their blog, even if the numbers are up there, so I guess you can say everyone is on a “never-ending quest for more blog visitors” but I think I’m off to a great start if you are willing to take any tips from a beginner ;-)
