Wordpress 2.5 Released
Well Wordpress 2.5 has finally been released. I’ve seen the screenshots of 2.5 on various sites for a couple of weeks now. Well I just upgraded and the screen shots did not do the application justice. The new interface is so easy to get around. Took a couple of minutes before I found everything, but once I did find it I can say its a lot easier to navigate.
The media gallery looks fairly cool. I’m not sure how much I will use that functionality because I blog using Windows Live Writer and very rarely utilize the posting functions of wordpress any longer. I may have to make a couple of posts from the back end just to see how it works out.
I also noticed they is a new book on Amazon around Wordpress 2.5. I looked through the table of contents and it mostly looks like its tailored towards beginning users. Afterall it is one of the For Dummies series which does not mean a lot, but in my experience these books tend to lean more towards the just learning platform. Looks like there is not a lot on building plugins and only a couple of small chapters on modifying themes. I may run by the bookstore and see if I can lay my hands on it. Depending on what is inside I may pick up a copy. If it could really explain building plugins in a no nonsense manner then I would definitely buy a copy.

WordPress For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))

I’ve thought about updating, but the thing that scares me is if the plugins I have now don’t work properly. I’m read some rants from people annoyed by plugins that they love but haven’t been maintained properly through the WP upgrades.
How have your plugins been doing in 2.5 so far?
I haven’t had any issues with any of my plugins. I don’t use a lot on this site and I always try to keep them up to date, but all my plugins seem to work correctly. There is a list on the Wordpress site that shows which plugins have issues and which work fine.
I would really love to try the new release. Updateing sounds complicated. I am a wordpress n00b. My host had a one click install.
Is upgrading really as simple as I read about?
I just recently upgraded to version 2.5 and experience no ill effects. Overall, the interface is improved and easy to navigate. One negative for me is not being able to drag and drop widgets between columns. The new method is a bit cumbersome. Other than that, I’m liking the new version.
