New Year

Well its a new year and a time when many people make new year’s resolutions. I’ve thought about it this year and I don’t plan on really making any changes in my life. I may make a few in my business online, but that is about it. I could set goals such as I’m going to increase my web traffic, but that is going to happen regardless as I’m constantly cranking out new content on my other blogs daily. I did decide to take things to a new level and actually start investing more than just time in my online endeavors. I’ve made a fairly decent amount of money this past year and I’m thankful for everything I’ve been able to accomplish. I have not made my goal of 6K per month every month from my online activities, but I’ve done okay this year. The main reason I’ve improved this year is because I really started concentrating on tasks that help me obtain my goals and not looking at different methods too much. Perhaps that is the reason or perhaps I just found my niche. Who knows and who cares because the money is rolling in and it allows me more avenues.

Since I’ve been profitable this year and I want to avoid some taxes, I invested a decent amount of cash back into my business this year. One thing I’ve never done is to run a list. I’ve needed to do that, but I’ve never really taken the time to build one. One thing I purchased was subscriptions to a list manager and I will be offering the ability to sign up to my list in the near future. I could put one up right now, but I’ve decided to take a little while and really think about my list building activities. If I start an IM focused list, then I’m definitely not going to be one of these IMers who just pitch every product that comes down the line without providing any real value. I’, on enough of those lists already and I plan to maintain my brand of No Nonsense Tips. Its no secret that people run lists to make money from, but I think there needs to be a balance between give and take. If you join my list, then I’m going to hope you will give me something in the  form of commissions when I locate a product which needs to be promoted, but at the same time, if you give me your time, then I’m going to provide tips to my list members which I don’t provide anywhere else. Long time subscribers who know me also know that I don’t post near what I actually know on this blog or any other one for that matter. I will be a lot more open on a list which I own and in a medium where I don’t have to share with just anyone.

Another thing I’ve done is to invest some money into PPC marketing. I’ve loaded up several PPC accounts with cash and I will start to spend more money on advertising than I have in the past. One reason for this is I’ve been studying Cost Per Action affiliate programs and I’m a member of several programs now. A lot of these programs work  very well with PPC, more so than SE marketing, so I’ll be promoting these to various audiences over the coming year. CPA is really hot on quite a few IM forums and while it takes some work, the payout for a lot of these programs can be lucrative. Of course CPA is just coming full circle as CPA used to be a lot more popular to promote than lately. But many people are making some really good money with CPA programs as they mostly payout very well and they are a lot of times easier to convert than other product purchase types of Affiliate programs.

Some of the first money I ever made on the web was from a CPL program. Commission Junction offered a program where you got people to sign up as a member to Tech Republic and it paid me a buck a conversion. I actually did okay and converted a bunch of people as during that time I had a fairly successful certification site which got some decent traffic. I’ll likely be posting more about these types of programs and how they can make you money later, or this may be one of the topics I save for the list.

So regardless of what your new years resolutions are know I don’t really have one, except to utilize my talents and resources to continue to build my online presence in a manner which allows me to have additional choices in where I take my life. I for one am really tired of others controlling my destiny as has been the case lately.

Make Money with YouTube

If you are like me then you spend a good amount of time watching YouTube. I actually spend too much time on Youtube and I should be using some of that time to make money. Well it seems as if I could do both at the same time. Many online marketing people have been talking about using YouTube to generate traffic for a while, but I’ve never gotten into it since it appears that the conversions for traffic or not all that good. Well the traffic may not be the only way to monetize Youtube any longer. This has been available for a while and many of you may even be members. You can add Adsense to your Youtube account and make a share of the ad impressions served on the site. So if you create a video which is getting a lot of views then why not ad your adsense to it and see if you can make a few extra bucks. Some people are doing very well with this. You don’t hear a lot about people making big money online with Adsense anymore at least people who are don’t talk about it. I do okay with Adsense still on several sites, but nowhere near the level as what the people in this article are doing. Perhaps I need to look at this a little more and see how I too can make 20K per month on youtube.

I’ve actually seen the Mean Kitty song on youtube prior to reading the NyTimes article on this. I knew the mean kitty video was popular, but I had not idea how much money he was making off a spoof such as this. I hope he bought that cat something for all the money the kitty made him on YouTube.com. Its the least he could do.

One thing that interested me on this is that my kid has really been into creating videos lately. He took a class and has gotten really interested in creating videos. He has not done a lot yet, but he is starting to post them on Youtube just for fun. The only thing he asked for at Christmas was a  new video camera so he could create more vids. I mentioned the NyTimes article on making money form Youtube and that really peaked his interest. It peaked mine too as I can help him in this area and possibly even help myself at this time. Now he wants some good video editing software. They used the built in tools for Mac at school, but I told him I’ll picked him up a version of Adobe Premier or Pinnacle if you wants a copy to edit his videos for Youtube with. I’ve never done much video editing stuff so I’m not really sure which is best. Of course I know some guys who are pretty good at editing videos. They do it professionally for a living and even teach college classes on how to do this. They mostly use Macs for their video editing activities, but I’m sure they can make a recommendation for some good software which will run on Windows too. So if you are thinking of making money online and you have a vivid imagination, then perhaps you should look at making money with youtube.

Building one site at a time

For those of you that are long time readers of this blog you probably have noticed I’ve been a little lazy lately. Actually its not that I’ve been lazy as I’ve been working my tail off on other projects and as result have not had time to dedicate to this blog. I’ve not been spending my time wisely.

I’ve been reading a post series from Problogger on Ways to let your blog go and its a very good series, possibly one of the best things I’ve ever read on Problogger. One of posts in the series talks about time management for your blog activities and it describes exactly what has happened to me lately. I’ve become stretched too thinly with my activities. This is actually something that happens to a lot of people who earns money on the net and identify themselves as Internet Marketers.

I’ve seen person after person on various Internet marketing forums where someone states they are working their tail off but just can’t seem to catch a break and as a result they make very little or no money at all. Eventually they just give up. The gurus want you jumping from task to task, from site to site as it helps them squeeze more money out of you and you purchase their next major eBook that promises you the one thing that will launch your success. The truth is these people only want your money and they don’t want you to be successful. I’ve read quite a few of these so called eBooks and they pretty much all say the same thing. You don’t need any books, you can get everything you need from blogs just like this one or Problogger.net

Content is the only thing that matters when it comes to making money. Don’t try to sell the Make Money products as an affiliate. If you want to sell affiliate products then find products that appeal to a large segment of the population and just spend time creating good content. It may not pay off immediately for you, but it will pay off in the end.

These so called Gurus and I won’t mention their names have not done much in this world except build up massive lists and re-hash some content in an eBook with the same information you could find for free on the net with some well crafted Google searches. I don’t know of a single well known Internet Marketing Guru that has built any substantial site where you can see concrete proof of how their tactics work. What is the reason for this? If you do see their site’s its apparent those sites are not high traffic and if you have been around the net any length of time you know a site must have traffic to make any decent money.

The Gurus make their money by selling other people guides on how to make money, there is no other revenue stream that they use to make money and that is why they need you.

You will be a lot better off just picking a couple of websites in your chosen niche and focusing all your available time and energy on making those sites the best they can be. Spending time on 30-40 sites at a time will only serve one purpose and that is that none of the sites will become a money maker and allow you to realize your dreams.
