Internet Marketing Myths

I originally had planned not to post today, but I found a nice plug for this site from the Energize for Life Blog about how this blog was concise and straight to the point. Well since this is my goal with this site, it inspired me to write a little post. This could probably become a series very easy since there are so many Internet Marketing myths out there on how to market in the IM world.

Lets discuss one today and save some more for later:

Myth 1 – Build as many Made For Adsense sites as possible and get them all to earning a couple of dollars a day and you will be rich. People tell you to build 100’s of sites as quickly as possible using RSS feeds or content from article directories. It’s a well known fact that Google and the other search engines penalize sites for duplicate content. This strategy recognizes that fact and tells you to just keep building sites as other ones are de-indexed for spam.

So let’s think about this for a minute. Let’s say you can build 10 sites a day using a template and some automatic techniques. Let’s assume you are very good at this and it takes you 1 hour per site. Pretty good time since to build even an automated site you have to research the niche, grab a domain name or configure a subdomain, configure the template and find the articles, then upload the site and wait for the DNS to propagate. I would say this would take more than an hour, but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Then you need to get traffic to the site. Now you either pay for Adwords using the technique of Adsense Arbitrage or you submit to the social bookmarking sites, maybe building a few blogger blogs to drive traffic. This will take you additional time and promotion has to be done consistently to work at all. I don’t think it works effectively at all and most of these sites will only make a couple of dollars throughout their life. So you have hosting expenses, domain name expenses, and whatever you spent on the Adwords.

Then the kicker is the site only last a few weeks at the best before Google sends it to the bottom of the pile and you have to start over with a new site. So you do this over and over again. Or rinse and repeat. Well maybe you do this really well and you get 100 sites earning 2 bucks a day which earns you 6K a month minus Adwords budget. Great right, I say it’s not so great. You are working at least 12 hours a day to build these sites just to get them de-indexed. You are wasting the money you are spending on hosting and domain names

The entire idea behind Internet Marketing is to build a residual income that earns money for the efforts you exhibited months ago and still pay you today. But is this really what you are accomplishing here? You keep having to build more and more sites to keep your income up. So you are doing all this work just to keep on working. You are getting further away from your goal.

Just a thought, but would this effort be not better spent building unique content sites that provide value and ones that the search engines and other webmasters love so you create a constant stream of traffic to your site that one is free and two has long lasting effects for your income. You decide which is better and more likely to help you accomplish your goals.

More IM Myths, as I see them, to come later.
