SEO Tips

One of the most important skills needed when building a website is SEO optimization. There are many different people who have different ideas on SEO optimization, but most agree on one thing. Without optimization your site is dead. You need organic search engine traffic or it will be very difficult for you to turn a profit on a site.

Lots of people recommend Adwords or Article Marketing to drive traffic to your sites and while these methods work to an extent, you can wind up with a negative sum game with Adwords and Article Marketing is not as useful as it once was. All is not lost though if you follow a few simple rules then you will be able to turn a profit without needing to mortgage your home to make a few dollars on the Internet .

Bruce’s Rules for building a killer website:

1. Don’t take shortcuts – This is your business treat it like its important. Don’t take short cuts when building your site. Lots of programs will build out 1000’s of pages of garbage for you in just a few minutes. These sites may get indexed fast, but they will also get dropped just as fast. Build quality in your site and your visitors will reward you.

2. Content is King – We have all heard this before, but a lot of people still do not spend adequate time on building unique and interesting content. Not only will this help your placement in the search engines, but it also gives your visitors a reason to come back. Steve Palvina is one example of this at work. No one who visits Steve’s site and spends any time on it can honestly say that Steve does not follow this methodology. Steve has commented that he had his site up for a year before he ever earned any money off it and now he is earning $1000 a day off the one site. Seems to me like this is a valid business plan. It took Steve a little while to make this happen, but now I personally feel his effort has been worth it. Make up your own mind on this one.

3. Link Exchanges- Most people will tell you to do link Exchanges with other like themed sites and while some of this does not hurt, you should not spend a lot of time on it. Spend that time building your content, it will produce more in the end.

4. Stay away from template sites- While it may be good to use Template sites to help you build sites quickly, you need to make sure you modify these enough to make them unique. Search engine code is getting very good at being able to identify these sites and will penalize you. Its your site make it your own and the rewards will come. Plus users do not want to see the same design over and over and they will not perform the needed action.

5. Manage your Conversion – It does not matter how great a site you use or how unique the niche is then it will not help you achieve your goals if the visitors do not perform the action you intend. Pay attention to ad placement and what is appealing to your unique visitors. Put tracking mechanisms in place to enable you to track this. Once you understand the route your visitors take through your site and what pushes their action buttons then you can make a lot more profit with your site.

There are many other items you can do to help your site become successful and we will explore them later. The main thing is to focus on quality over quantity. Don’t put up spam blogs and generated sites, unless you like just chasing a dream without a chance of ever obtaining your true goals.
