Seems as if the web is an ever changing place. I guess that is what makes it so popular and never-ending. I noticed today that Google is now requiring you to use a Google account to sing into Adsense. I’m guessing Adwords is now the same too, but I have not logged in their but I did have a message asking me if I wanted to integrate Adwords. I said no for the moment.

This is really making me a little nervous. There is a such thing as security by obscurity and Google is stepping all over that by requiring the same account for multiple services. I like to keep things separate. What does reading my email have to do with checking Adsense earnings and why must the accounts be the same. I could have created a new account but then thats another one to remember, when I already had an email address that is only used for a couple of purposes and nothing else. So if I send someone an email from a certain account then they have my username for Gmail, Adsense, Blogger , and a host of other Google services I have signed up for but never used. So you are half way there to cracking my accounts. Luckily for me I’m a network admin, in the daytime, and my passwords would take John the Ripper 20 years on a fast computer to break the hash. but what about all these people who don’t understand the potential security concerns with having the same user account for multiple services and they make their password their cat’s name or maybe they even make it the same as their username( It does happen) or they paste it under their keyboard in their office or on a posty on their computer( it does happen).

Google has some smart people so I don’t understand why they are putting all their eggs in one basket. If this continues, then I don’t expect it will be long before people will be hacking Google accounts like they have hacked AOl accounts for years. They’ll even be software to help them do it, if there is not already. Come on Google I know you want to beat MS, but lets not do it at the expense of security. Security is everyone’s concern and the techs need to help these users out.
