Google Page Rank

Google page rank is something that is talked about all over the web on various webmaster forums and blogs. There has been a lot of debate lately on how important it is to a site’s ranking in the SE’s. I personally think it does not count as much as it once did, but that does not mean you should ignore it. Tom Jackson put together a decent definition of Page Rank on his blogger blog you may want to read if you are not familiar with how it works.

My contention is whether or not you believe page rank matters in ranking or not you should still not neglect trying to improve your page rank. Now its well known that you can get a page rank of 4 fairly easily by just having a decent interlinking strategy within your site. As I write this post, this site still has a PR of 0, this will change on the next page rank update. I’ll get at least a four and probably even a 5 or 6. You may ask how is that possible as I don’t have an huge amount of back links into this site yet, but here is the secret, this is not the only site I own and some of those sites are up there with page rank, There have been links put on those sites to this one and the PR on those sites should transfer to this one on the net update. So if you get a link from one site with a page rank of 7 and a few others from sites with lower page ranks, then you are almost guaranteed a page rank of 6 on the next update.

Google should update PR sometime in late January or early February so we’ll just have to wait and see how it works out. Regardless of how it goes with the PR update, I am starting to see some organic traffic to this site and of course I’ve also generated a decent amount of traffic from my traffic generation techniques. I have not really worked very hard on generating traffic to this site as it is never going to be much of a money maker. I spend most of my promotion time on my other niche sites which generate a lot more revenue than this one.

Whether a higher page rank helps you in the search engine rankings or not is not the reason you should attempt to gain a higher PR. The main reason for doing this is a result of how page rank works. As a rule( discounting the links from a high PR site mentioned above),the higher the PR, the more incoming links a site has the more traffic that will be generated from those links. That is the main reason to do work on PR related activities whether that is link exchanges or article submission. The more incoming links you have the less search engine changes can affect your traffic.
