Google has launched a new tool that could be used to get some insight onto the search volumes of other sites. It does not work for low volume sites so you won’t be able to spy on other small guys, but you will be able to check out the big sites and derive some insight from how those sites are found in the search engines.
Utilizing this data will help you to design your blog posts to take advantages of weaknesses in popular phrases or even target the same phrases as the big sites target. Its not a perfect system and I still need to spend some time figuring this out and determining the best way to use the data, but its still early and I need to do some testing and spying on my competitors before I know exactly how I’m going to use this tool.
