Go Big or Stay Small

Go big or stay small is a question which has been on my mind for a while. I could not verbalize it until yesterday but this pretty much sums up a lot of things with Internet Marketing. Its really a question we all should be asking ourselves in this life. We all have choices in our life and our businesses and those choices come down to this one phrase.

So do you grow big or stay small. Its really a simple question, but many people never answer it. And if you do answer it are you prepared to follow through on that plan. For example I don’t know anyone who would not say they wanted more traffic or more revenue in their internet business, but are they prepared for the more work. Most people are not prepared for this and in my opinion its the reason many people do not reach their full potential in Internet Marketing or in life in general.

I know this has been a problem of mine from time to time. When  I was in college I had some courses in psychology and sociology one term that was introduced in these courses was the concept of reference groups. According to the terms we all have reference groups of people we strive to become like. These are the people we admire and want to become part of. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is to hang out with the groups we want to become a part of in hope that the group will accept us.

Now in the Internet Marketing world this is not as straight forward. Many times the groups we wish to become a part of are not really part of our lives. We see websites or web businesses that we see are successful and we desire to accomplish what the people behind those web properties have accomplished. I see this on forums all the time where someone asks how someone created a specific site. People will even reverse engineer a site’s design or programming in hopes of creating the same type of site, but the design is only one piece of a web business. The keywords they use or the way content is presented is not the whole site. You may can reverse engineer these items, but you can’t reverse engineer the thought process behind the original idea. Even if you could figure out what they where thinking then you would not be 100% the same as we all have our unique experiences in life which have brought you to this point in your life.

So what is my point? My point is when making decisions for your business don’t try to copy someone verbatim, put your own spin on the plan. And decide from the start if you want to grow big or stay small. There is nothing really wrong with either choice, but each path requires a different path to accomplish. Anyone can stay small, but to grow big takes planning and investment.

Do you really want to be just like one of the big gurus, do you want to own a site like Amazon.com or Ebay. What ever your reference group is or in this case reference site, then pull it apart and figure out how they got that way. You won’t be able to duplicate them 100% but you would not want to anyway as you want to make it your own.

So do you want to grow big or stay small? Don’t answer big unless you are prepared to do what is required to create a big site and in term create a big business from that site. The money is there for people who are willing.

100 Dollar a Day Challenge

I was cruising over at the Warrior Forum yesterday and came across this interesting post about Steve Crooks who started a challenge to see if he could take a brand new blog and have it earning 100 dollars a day with Adsense within 3 months. I love to see these types of challenges as they motivate you to succeed. Now whether you make the goal or not its that you actually made a goal. Steve did not make his goal of 100 dollars a day, but he did build a blog that will keep growing and will allow him to generate additional passive income.

I’m reading a book currently by Chris Gardner( he is the guy the the Will Smith movie, “The Pursuit of Happiness” is about). Chris’s latest book is titled start where you are and it has some very good advice. I’m not through with the book yet, but the jist of it is to not be afraid to take chances and use the talents and resources you have to achieve your goals. This is exactly what Steve did with his challenge. He made a public declaration of what he wanted to achieve and then he worked towards it. While some may say he failed because he did not achieve 100 dollars a day. I say he is a winner because he tried.

He got me to thinking perhaps I’ll challenge myself to produce better results than Steve. I discovered a niche last week which has a lot of potential. I have only posted a few articles to the blog I set up and the domain is brand new. This puts me in a position to take the same challenge as Steve, but add my own flavor of promotion and strategy.

This will allow me to do two things. First it allows me to challenge myself to work on this project which is important, because I was recently laid off from my day job and Internet Marketing is my only source of income. While I’m earning enough to pay all my bills and have a little left over, I could always use more and an additional $3 grand a month would come in handy.

I’m not going to reveal this niche, but I will explain my process and provide another niche which could be just as profitable that I’ve found, but have no plans of promoting.

This also gives me something to blog about on this site and perhaps it will help someone learn some new techniques from the process I show with this and how I build blogs to earn money.

Lets start with the awstats from my brand new blog right now. You will see that I only set it up on the 11th which is the same day I registered the domain. right now there are 10 posts on it and I have a list of two hundred post titles which I need to add to the blog before I’m going to be able to reach my goal. And even then its questionable as its really hard to bring a blog from nothing to 3000 dollars in three months or even six months, but I’m going to give it a try. Its not something I’ve ever done, so it will be learning experience for me as well as anyone reading this blog.

$2049.43 with Adsense in a single day

Is it possible to still earn money with Adsense? A lot of the Gurus will say no, but I disagree. I’ve been trend blogging for a little over a year and I’ve learned a few things about this technique and it pays off for me. Now those of you who know me know I don’t normally talk about how much money I earn and exactly how I earn it, but this day really got me excited and I had to brag a little to my good friend Jay of Datmoney about the accomplishment. I promised Jay’s readers that I would show some proof, so here goes. The following shows a single day’s earning on Adsense and the majority of it is from a post I wrote over a year ago in about 15 minutes.

This day was a couple of weeks ago and needless to say this was a good day. While I’ve had good days before I’ve never had a single day quite this good. Lets show one I took about 10AM this morning which shows the last 7 days. This one does not include the 2K listed above.

Since I normally get the majority of my traffic in the late afternoon and evening today will likely turn out to be a $400-$500 dollar day. Now I realize I have not really told anyone how I did this. I did mention trend blogging, but its my method of trend blogging and for many it would not even be referred to as trend blogging.

I thought of just writing it out here on the site, but then people would read my methods and implement them causing competition for me, without me getting any benefit. So that is not going to work.

I did have an idea on how I can release some of these tips in the manner which stays in line with the mission of No Nonsense Internet Tips and still allows me to protect my strategy.

I purchased an autoresponder last year for a tax deduction, but haven’t really used it. It was one of those off the cuff purchases where I really did not have a plan for it, but bought it anyway. Well my accountant( who is also my wife) has been asking me about ROI for certain expenses including the autoresponder account. Well so now I can solve two problems at once. I will start sharing some of my better tips to people who subscribe to my list. I’m not saying I will not ever push you a product which I think you may be able to use, but I’m not like a lot of Internet Marketers where I have to push a product on you with every email. Nor will I email you every day. So if you want some of my strategies then look in the top right corner and subscribe to my list.

There is actually a couple of tips waiting right now in the queue that helps me with SEO and SE ranking for my posts right now. I will likely put together a step by step guide of how I set up a trend blog and get it to earning more than a couple of bucks a day on adsense soon. I do have a couple of items on my plate so I won’t have time to do this for a few weeks, but I will put it together and make it available to people who are loyal subscribers to my list.

Good luck to everyone in their blogging endeavors.
