Project Wonderful Update

For the regular readers of this blog, you may have noticed the Project Wonderful ads in the sidebar. Of course now they are gone and and this post is why. I ran Project Wonderful for a couple of weeks. During that time my ad prices fluctuated between .05 and .20 cents per day. For the people who had the advertising spots this was a pretty good deal, but for me the ads where too intrusive and I did not see where they added any value to this blog, so I killed them.

I never posted the ads to earn any money from them, but more as a way to reward people who visit this blog regularly, but that is not really what happened.I had a lot of requests and while some of the advertiser requests where valid and something I would not  mind advertising on this blog, there was also a lot of requests for affiliate programs. Of course those where declined, but it did not stop the requests.

Project Wonderful is probably a decent place to advertise your blog and to build your brand, I’m not sure the ROI will be acceptable. I ran over 400 ads on various blogs the past couple of weeks and really only saw a few actual visitors to my site from those ads. So to me its not really worth it and I won’t be using them for this blog in the future.

Now back to the Affiliate programs, that’s not really a bad idea. If people will approve those types of ads and you did it properly then you could probably post quite a few links which could earn you a little money for a cheap advertising place. If you chose your keywords for a campaign properly and kept the costs down to a penny or couple of cents then you could post affiliate ads out to hundreds of websites for only a little bit of money per day. putting your ad on 400 websites for 4 bucks a day is a pretty good deal and if you made the graphic catchy enough then you may could earn some commissions from your efforts.

How to make Money with blogs

How to make money with blogs is one of the most frequently asked questions of bloggers on the Net. I know how to do it with niche blogs on various topics, but I will admit in the make money niche I’m pretty much a failure. I just recently started really working on this blog to earn a few dollars and to tell the truth I don’t have this niche figured out at all. If you look around the net you will find most people do not. I could always bombard you with Affiliate links to the latest eBook guaranteed to earn you millions over night, but I’ve got this little inhibitor called ethics which won’t allow me to pitch book after book when I know for most people the tips included do not work.

I posted yesterday that I had joined Project Wonderful and I really think it has some potential. Within an hour after creating my adbox and posting it I had 34 bids on the spot. Of course a lot of those where ad for sites I could not approve. If I wanted to link to sites that where borderline porn then I would do so from some other sites and not this one. so I decided to go ahead and cancel all the initial ads and recreate the spot with a 50 cent bid. This should be well within most people’s budget and at the same time keep out these types of ads or at least only get the ones that want to pay a little for their traffic. Bids are not coming in like they where, in fact I’ve only had one since I changed the price and that one ran out of money. I think I’ll leave it that way for a few days and see what happens even if that means the ad spots stay blank.

I also decided to give Scratchback a try and see which of these work out the best. I left the tips amount at the minimum which is a buck and I removed the paypal donation from this site. I’ve always gotten a few tips through the paypal donation, but nothing to be impressed with. The scratchback widget really does the same thing, but it also allows the tipper to get a little something back in terms of a link. Seems a little better to me. I’m starting to see a lot more of these on the web so a lot of bloggers are giving this a go. If you are using either of these I would be interested in hearing about whether you think they are worth the realestate or not.

Project Wonderful

You may notice the new Advertise Here widget on the right side of the page. I decided to give it a try on this blog and see how it works out. I’ve noticed a lot of people are starting to use this as a revenue stream and some are making a couple of dollars with it. I don’t expect to make a lot of money since as I looked through the system there are some fairly high profile sites with a small bid price on their ads. I figure it will be more of a method of providing my regular readers a chance to advertise their sites on No Nonsense Internet Tips easily. I’ve been asked about providing adspots in the past but really did not want to take the time to manage the ads. I did install OpenAds and played with that a little and I am using that program to manage ads on some of my other sites, but I really did not want to manage that here. I would rather spend my time here writing posts and not much on the management side of the house, so Project Wonderful is great for that. They handle all the backend and all I need to do is to paste some code and approve the ads. Well at the moment this is a great time to bid as I don’t have any bidders at the moment so your ad would basically run for free. That’s a great price :-)

I really joined because of this little loophole. I’m finding some great sites that I can advertise on and it won’t cost an arm and a leg to get my ads. This is really a lot cheaper than you can get with Adwords, so why not give it a try. I’ll report back in a few days and let you know how its going. Of course you will be able to tell, if the adspots are not full then I’ll be heart broken :-)
