Well I’m off to Seattle for the next few days to attend the Microsoft Most Valauble Professional Summit. I was awarded MVP status a few years ago and have been able to obtain the award ever since. I’m excited to be attending this summit as I will get an inside look at what is coming out of Microsoft in the next couple of years.
One area I’m really interested in is the area of Mashups and will be attending a fairly long session on this topic. Mashups are not really a Microsoft only product, but more of a methodology. I expect Maskups to become the next big thing in the Internet. Think of it as Web 2.0 on steroids. People want more interaction from websites they visit and this is one of the ways you can offer this to your visitors. Mashups are simply a methodology of providing multiple services in one interface. For example on a travel site you could have a page that will provide you visitor information on the Weather, Traffic Conditions, and what ever else for a location they are planning to visit. This provides more value to your potential customer and may entice them to purchase from this value. The cool thing about mashups is you don’t have to create all this content. The idea is that you create an interface that accesses APIs from other sources such as weather.com for your weather and then by a call to their Web Serivces you are able to display information that you normally may not be able to provide your visitors.
I think you will see more of these types of websites in the future. What it means for your business at this point may not be apparent, but this technology is cool and it will make a difference at some point in the future. If you start thinking about how now, you will be much better off when the shift happens.

Can you recommend any good sites about mashups for people who want to learn more. Are there any companies out there that are already using this?
