Make sure your meta tags are listed correctly in the head section of your site. META tags are not used as much by the searches engines anymore, because they where mis-used for years by spammers. They are still useful especially the description tag as a lot of engines use this as a description for your website. These tags are also useful for PPC programs such as Adsense. I don’t have any hard proof of this, but it seems that Google Adsense uses the META tags to help target ads to your content. So this is just a little side effect to defining your META tags.

Use header tags and other relevant tags whenever you can in your titles and make sure you bold or assign font color the words in your pages that are relevant to how you would like the search engines to find your site. Also rename any images you may have on your site to relevant keywords. You can also use Alternate text for all your images and this is a good idea not just for the search engines but also for ADA compliance. This will allow people with disabilities to navigate your site easier. Now that you have done all this then turn on the pinging services and write your eleventh post. Its better to spread posts out over several days when you first start pinging. You will need to post a new article every day for at least the first week after you turn on pinging. Don’t post too much and make sure all the articles you post have unique content . Duplicate content proposes problems with getting new sites indexed. After you have a decent position in the engines then you can use content from article directories or PLR, but I do suggest that you only use unique content as this will help your site’s traffic long term and ensure your site’s life span is sustainable.

After a week of posting and pinging. Bookmark all your pages to the Social Bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon and Onlywire. I really don’t like Onlywire even though it saves time. It would be better to bookmark individually to each of the sites listed at Onlywire as it will give you the same exposure but look less like you are actually trying to promote a site.

These techniques work for both websites and blogs, but since we are talking about blogs then another thing that will help is for you to claim your blog at Technorati. Make sure you do this as soon as possible because it will do wonders for traffic as well as give you a tool to check the status of your blog in the blogsphere as time goes along.

Once we have you have done all this you should see a decent amount of crawls from the Search engines in your logs. You should also be getting some traffic to your site from your social bookmarking efforts. Make sure every time you bookmark a site at one of these bookmarking sites that you define tags relevant to your content as well as enter a couple of sentence description if the service allows you to enter one.
