I know I have not been posting much, but I have a good reason. First reason is becuase my wife recently had surgery and I’ve been preoccupied with it. Second is becuase the day job has been killer and I have not much felt like writing when I get home. and Third has to do with WordPress and Web 2.0.
There are hundreds of plugins for Wordpress and I’ve installed and played with quite a few. but there are some that I would just love to have that I have not been able to find, Most of these would revolve around making wordpress more of a web 2.0 type application. Wordpress is still a fairly young platform and there are some great enhancements that could be made. Now as someone who comes from mostly a Microsoft background and even someone who has worked on open source projects built with Microsoft products( yes these projects do exist), namely DotNetNuke . I’ve found a lot of plugins for Word press that approach Web 2.0 status, but none that really blow me away.
For this reason, I’ve decided to learn PHP and wordpress to the point that I can contribute to this platform. I’ve got ideas for about 15 plugins that will allow various functionality that I have either not found a plugin that will do or the plugin’s I’ve found are not adequate for my needs. I’m picky when it comes to programming so I don’t believe you should write anything with code reuse in mind. So I’m taking the Object Orientated approach to PHP programming and I think I’m coming along fairly well. I’m not going to spill the beans yet. Once because I’m not sure whether I’m going to sell a couple of these plugins or whether I’m going to give them away. I’ll probably take a shareware type approach where I create two versions a lit version and a pro version. That way the community can benefit while I can still earn a few dollars for my time.
Anyway because of this decision I’ve made that I’m going to code some PHP apps using Object Orientated programming and Ajax to create some cool ( what I consider anyway) Web 2.0 tye Word press plugins, I’m adding a new category to this install and there will be some posts on this topic as time goes along. We will still post IM types posts as that is the focus of this blog, but its time to branch out a little.
